Switzerland Misfortune Plane Gauligletscher, 1946 (b/w photo)

A search party on November 22 at the Hotel Rosenlaui during the briefing on the missing US Air Force aircraft on the Gauligletscher. A Dakota (Douglas DC-3) with twelve persons on board crashes on November 19, 1946 on the way from Munich to Marseille over the Alps. The plane disappears from the radar screens in the Alps on 19 November 1946. Only after three days the crashed plane will be located on the Gauligletscher in the Haslital in the Bernese Oberland. Rescue teams will start the rescue operation early in the morning of 23 November from Rosenlaui near Meiringen. After 13 hours they reach the machine. All passengers had survived the crash and will be flown into the valley on November 24 by Swiss military pilots Victor Hug and Pista Hitz in “Fieseler Storch” aircraft.
